Full description
Exeter Archaeology, 2001, Archaeological Assessment of a Proposed Development Site, Wyvern Barracks, Exeter, 2-3 (Report - Assessment). SDV342018.
The two fields immediately to the north of the barrack buildings were shown on the 1843 Heavitree Tithe Map apportionment as 'Barrack Field' and 'Inner Barrack Field', both of which were under pasture. The 4 fields further north bounded by Dryden road were listed as arable. During World War II a hutted camp was located in this area and it is possibly the site of a 1942 German plane crash.
