9 Castle Street formed an extension to the electricity works in the 1930's. The house can be traced from a lease of 1577 when it was described as 'lately enclosed and walled aboute' through the 17th - 19th century. John Wood's map of 1843 suggests an open quayside at the rear. It appears to have been this house that possessed a 17th century semicircular headed door which was subsequently preserved at the local museum.
