Summary
'fairfield house' in oakhayes road is shown as a square building set back from the lane on the 1841 woodbury tithe map with a smaller structure adjoining the northwest corner. It occupied 0.71ha with its shrubbery + lawn. In 1839 it was called 'farefield house' + in the post medieval period the site was known as 'culvery'. Leland refers to the house in 1949 as 'culvery lodge' which is described as a 'restored name' (ea).

Full description
BELL + DYER + WHITEAWAY, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV129305.
Monitoring of building work in 3 plots of land in the grounds of old fairfield house was undertaken in 2002/2003 by ea. No archaeological features observed in plot 1, nearest house. Plot 2, in se area of grounds, revealed a shallow pit containing c19/c20 china and building debris. Plot 3 in sw area contained remains of a path to a former summer house at s end of garden (bell + dyer + whiteaway).
