Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, Untitled Source (Cartographic). SDV54691.

'Chudleigh Bridge Mills' is marked on 1880s-90s 25" OS map, a rectangular building by the road.

Ordnance Survey, 1904 - 1906, Untitled Source (Cartographic). SDV113468.

Marked as 'Corn Mills (Disused)' on 1904-6 25" OS map.

Swete, J. (ed. Gray T. + Rowe, M.), 1990s, Untitled Source (Monograph). SDV324320.

View entitled 'Mill near Chudleigh Bridge'. According to Swete, the mill had been 'superseded by its Neighbour' and 'had ceas'd to perform its revolutions'.

Bodman, M., 1998, Water-Powered Sites in Devon, 38 (Report - non-specific). SDV305931.

Site of Chudleigh Bridge Mills. Other details: 9.

Watts, S., 2006, Untitled Source (Personal Comment). SDV324321.

The 'Neighbour' mentioned by Swete could refer to a mill on an adjacent site or possibly Bellamarsh Mill (PRN 13797) or Palace Mill (PRN 19779). It appears that the mill was subsequently rebuilt or reparied for a century later in a newspaper article dated 27/10/1875 which describes the effects of a recent storm it is reported that at Chudleigh Bridge Mills, occupied by Mr Metherall, 'over forty bushels of wheat were washed out of the mill'. The mill was apparently last used in 1904 and fell down in 1915.
