Full description

Humphreys, C. + Mandry, A., 2001, Fish Traps Project, 5 (Article in Serial). SDV342249.

List of fish traps recorded as shipping hazards on 19th century charts. Heanton Court West, number 14, may or may not be extant.

Preece, C., 2002, Fish Weirs: As Irritating As Traffic Cones, 10-11 (Article in Serial). SDV342210.

Extract from Denham map of 1832 shows fish weirs as chevron-like features. A search by members of North Devon Archaeological Society in March 2002, in the area of weir number 14 on the map, failed to locate it.

Preece, C., 2005, A Conflict of Interests: the Fish Traps of the Taw and Torridge Estuaries, 154 (Article in Serial). SDV342251.

Heanton Court West, number 14. Several visits were made here, but no evidence was found. From the Denham chart it appears to be a relatively small 'V' shaped weir and remains may well be covered by a build up of estuarial mud.
