Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

The settlement of Middle Cowley with four buildings and two orchards are depicted. The tithe apportionment documents parcel 440 as House, outhouses and Court.

The settlement of Middle Cowley has expanded to the north and south, the two orchards are still present. There appears to be three possibly four buildings to the south and three buildngs to the north. The settlement was first mentioned as Couelegh in 1333.

Little has changed since the First Edition map apart from the buildings to the north which apper to have expanded.
