HER Number:MDV66369
Name:Cairn north-east of the Whittenknowles Rocks settlement

Summary

A small cairn measuring 3.6m in diameter and 0.5m high. There is no evidence of disturbance; a few boulders and small slabs lie around the perimeter. Its position adjacent to the nearby extensive settlement suggests that it is probably a stone clearance mound rather than a burial cairn. A 2017 visit recorded the condition as fair and the site stable.

The monument includes a round cairn situated on a gentle south facing slope overlooking the valley of the River Plym. The cairn survives as a 4 metres diameter mound standing up to 0.6 metres high. Stones protruding around the western and southern edges of the mound may represent a kerb which survives elsewhere as a buried feature.
