Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

Field system shown on 19th century map with a group of four small fields at the northern end and two or three larger fields to the south-west.

Site visited on 9th May 2002. field system 580 metres south-south-west of Eylesbarrow, forming part of Eylesbarrow Tin Mine. Post-medieval field system consisting of at least five fields. The character of the field walls vary. One internal boundary survives as a wall formed by large edge set orthostats standing 1 metre high. Around the edge the wall consists of an internal bank revetted on the outside by either edge set orthostats or coursed drystone walling up to 1.2 metres. The outer wall underlies dumps from two shafts but overlies earlier mining activity.
