Whitley, N., 1855, Plan of Shapley Common Tor (Plan - sketch). SDV306838.

Whiteley's plan shows a feature "like the remains of a kistvain" in this position.

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1953, SX68SE32 (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV306839.

(19/03/1953) Possible Bronze Age cairn. A turf covered mound of stones with a height of 0.5 metres and a diameter of 4.5 metres; no encircling ditch. It is situated on top of a ridge, and though unusually small compared with other cairns in the vicinity, it is possibly a cairn. No trace of mutilation.
(15/06/1978) No change since report of 19/03/1953 : situated at SX 69848176.
Surveyed at 1:2500 on MSD.

(Visited 10/2/1995) In stable condition.

(10/10/2000) SX 69848176. This cairn remains as described in 1953 though it is now largely obscured by heather. There are no traces of a cairn or cist.

Greeves, T. A. P., 2013, Cairn between Hookney Tor and Shapley Tor, Visited 19 & 24/05/13, Photograph attached (Worksheet). SDV351331.

(SX 69845 81774) Small discrete prehistoric round cairn on ridge between Hookney Tor and Shapley Tor. Measures 4.0 metres in diameter by approximately 0.5 metres in height. Some stones visible one of which may be a kerbstone. In good condition.
