Semi-circular earthwork shown on 19th century map.

Site visited on 15th May 2002. Shaft 120 metres north of Plym Ford, of Plym Ford, forming part of Wheal Katherine tin mine. A moderately steep pit measuring about 4 metres deep cuts into an openwork. The associated dump is 2 metres high, flat topped and covered in heather, moss and bilberry.

Shaft number 32 at Wheal Katherine is one of at least six shafts at the mine. This shaft on the eastern edge of the mine is sited with a 'T' shaped openwork and is likely to have been an engine shaft pumped by the nearby waterwheel (EW3).

Remains of a tin processing works at Wheal Katherine which formed part of Eylesbarrow tin mine set and was operational until 1856. An archaeological field survey in 1994 located structures including a stamping mill, dressing floors and buddles.
