Docton is recorded as Thorry in 1308. There is a reference of 1539 to a former priest of Hartland Abbey serving in a private chapel of the Prust family at Thorry. The house was sold to Thomas Docton in the late 16th century and a document of 1618 refers to the house at Docton and an associated tenement at Thorry.

CRAMP CITING PEARSE-CHOPE, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV13141.

'docton' was documented as 'thorry' in 1308 + was the seat of hugh prust in 1506. A reference in 1539 mentions a former priest of hartland abbey serving in the private chapel of the prust family at 'thorry'. The house was sold to thomas docton in the late c16 + a document of 1618 refers to the house at 'docton' + an associated tenement at 'thorry' (cramp citing pearse-chope).
