A quarry pit of mid to late 19th century date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards at Leigh Barton. The quarry pit clearly post-dates the Silverton parish tithe map of approximately 1838-48 which instead depicts the location of the site as a road. The site of the quarry is first alluded to on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s after the road had been removed, although no location of the quarry is depicted. It is, however, partially depicted on the Second Edition Ordnance Survey map of between 1904-06. It is sub-oval in shape, measures approximately 21m in length by 11.5m in width and is located at the apex of a historic field boundary and a road, to the north of Leigh Barton. The quarry, which was likely fairly short-lived and possibly used for building stone for use at the nearby farmstead remains visible on aerial photographs up until 1989, although appears to have been completely levelled by digital images of 2010.
