Summary

One of a group of seven unenclosed hut circles in a settlement north of Hemstone Rocks in Fernworthy Forest. Hut circle of 4.8 metres diameter with walls 0.8 metres wide by 0.3 metres high in the eastern part of the settlement. Part of an enclosure wall is attached to this hut.

Fernworthy Hemstone Rocks (F) Hut circle (7F)
Hut circle 12 metres north-north-east of hut 6F. 3.6 metres in diameter, Very ruined; unable to determine thickness of wall. Largest stone measures 1.15 metres in length, 0.3 metres width, 0.25 metres thick and has fallen. Not investigated, has been planted over. There is an enclosure wall 4.0 metres north-north-east of this hut.
February 1976. Posts ringing clearance zone enclosing sites 6-9F. 1 tree inside hut, 3 more in wall.
Not included in 1955 Spooner/Dixon report. New discovery.

Visited on 2nd August 1995. Hut circle at SX64848381 of 4.5 metres diameter with walls 0.9 metres wide by 0.25 metres high. Incomplete hut of boulders and slabs which has been overplanted.

Fernworthy Hemstone Rocks. 6F-9F. Site visit 27th September 1996. Hut circles (6F/7F), ring cairn (8F) and cairn (9F). Site within a deforested area on the edge of woodland. The posts on the west side have disappeared or have been knocked over, presumably during felling. Brash is covering the site. The site needs immediate attention concerning its future management.

A slight circular earthwork with level interior and internal diameter of approximately 6.2 metres. Two low earthfast slabs on the north-western arc of the wall may still be in situ. The hut is attached on the west side to the remnant of a field wall running north-north-west to south-south-east.
