Full description

Central Garage in Barnstaple, Phase II. The most significant result of the investigation of the Medieval phases was the lack of a continuous north south running wall or wall foundation trench on the line of that revealed at Bull Court. At the east end a 'V'sectioned ditch ran north south across the trench. Very little dating evidence was recovered, though small quantities of Horizon two pottery suggested a 14th to 15th century date for the late silting of the feature. A well survived in good condition some 15 metres west of the modern Boutport Street frontage. This yielded pottery predominantly of Horizon 1, though with Horizon 3 pottery in the upmost fill.
