Summary
Excavations on the site of the Central Garage between Boutport Street and Green Lane revealed two irregularly shaped pits cut into the upper fill of the town ditch. These are interpreted as a channel for liquids involved in some sort of industrial processing.

Full description
Ordnance Survey, 1973, SS5433-5533 (Cartographic). SDV77308.
Garages marked adjacent to the Bus Depot between Green Lane and Boutport Street.

Excavation at Central Garage revealed several phases of use and occupation.
Phase III. The features of this phase contained pottery suggestive of a 16th century date. Two irregularly shaped pits were cut into the west side of the upper fill of the north south ditch and were interpreted as a channel for liquids involved in some sort of processing. The impression given by this phase is one of solely industrial use rather than the combined domestic and industrial development of Joy Street at this date.
