Full description

English Heritage, 1983, Listed Building No 85774 (Un-published). SDV351951.

The large early 19th century square timber-framed weatherboarded granary is located to the south of the farmstead.

McCallum, D., 1992, Proposed Demolition of Listed Granary, Home Farm Barns, Haccombe, Haccombe with Combe (Correspondence). SDV351953.

It is rare that a timber framed granary on staddles should survive in the south of Devon, and although this one is clearly in need of some repair, it is certainly not beyond saving. Although some of the slates have slipped and some of the weather boarding has been replaced by corrugated sheeting, its basic form remains unaltered, and there is no justification for demolition of the building.

McCallum, D., 1994, Appeal Against Refusal of Planning Permission for Dismantling of Granary and Conversion to Form a Dwelling: Proof of Evidence (Correspondence). SDV351952.

In its current position, and unconverted, it remains the only part of this important planned farmyard retaining any of its original character. Its position is historically significant and moving it to a new location will lead to confusion as to the historical development and use of this farmyard.

Ordnance Survey, 2011, MasterMap (Cartographic). SDV346129.

"The Granary" marked. Probably converted to residential.

English Heritage, 2013, National Heritage List for England (National Heritage List for England). SDV350785.

Granary. Probably early C19 or earlier. A timber-framed, weatherboarded structure with a hipped slate roof, raised on staddles. Plan: Unusually large granary, square on plan, on 9 staddles. Exterior: Weatherboarded with a door on the north-east side. Interior: Pegged roof trusses. A sale catalogue of 1942 describes the building as a "granary on mushrooms with 6 wooden bins built of feather-edged boarding". The adjacent planned farmyard (q.v.) is described in 1942 as having substantial additional provision for grain. Group value with Home Farmhouse and the planned farmyard.

Child, P, Unknown, Farm Buildings in Devon Suitable for Recording (Un-published). SDV346989.

Free-standing granary. Timber-framed construction with weather boarding and a pegged slate roof. It stands on nine staddle stones. Currently in a deteriorating condition.
