Furzebrook marked on 1880s-1890s 25 inch Ordnance Survey map comprising a large irregular shaped house with a glass house adjacent and further buildings and pump to the north and wooded gardens to the south.

In 1738 the lease of a workhouse was taken by the churchwardens of Axminster in 1738. An old map of 1770 shows the workhouse in garden of Gamberlake House which was built later.
