Full description

Exeter Archaeology, 2003, Archaeological Assessment of Little Bickington Farm, Higher Bickington, 5, fig 2 (Report - Assessment). SDV9530.

A well is shown on the 1887 25 inch Ordnance Survey map to the southwest of Little Bickington. It is reported that a well house once occupied the site but no trace of the well or building remains. A gully or drainage channel runs northwest to a depression 15m by 10m by up to 1.5m deep on the northwest field boundary at SS59992031 which may have been a quarry. An irregular shaped mound, 6m by 3m by up to 1m high, against the southeastern field boundary may derive from the demolition of the well house. The 1887 Ordnance Survey map shows a semicircular enclosure at this point.
