Full description
Chris Blandford Associates, 1997, Barnstaple Western Bypass and Urban Relief Road Stage 4. Environmental Assessment Phase A, 14 (Report - Assessment). SDV347381.
Earthwork remains adjacent to the railway line east of Pill. Showing on air photographs and clearly visible on the gound. Could be either ridge and furrow or perhaps remnants of former orchards running roughly east-west. Apparently overlain by a later system of drainage ditches.

During evaluation trenching in 2003 prior to the construction of the 'Barnstaple Western Bypass, a shallow east to west aligned feature was excavated. The feature was 2.6 metres wide by circa 0.3 metres deep with sloping sides and a flat base and was visible as a linear depression in the field on either side of the trench. It was interpreted as a former field boundary or trackway.
