At the western end of The Warren, within a 'kink' in the northern boundary wall, there is a grass covered mound, 26 paces long and 1 metre high with tapering ends. The mound, which is constructed of earth and stone, runs parallel with the Warren wall and could possibly be the truncated remains of an earlier wall.
Batty, M., 2003, South Devon Coast Path Project: a study of the archaeology along the coast path in the South Hams from Staddon Heights to Sharkham Point (Un-published). SDV336214.
Vis=11/8/2003 (batty) an earthwork mound 18-20m long, c4m wide and up to 1.2m high. Small eroded area showed compacted small stones and earth. Clearly visible in arcview. Photograph attached gives a poor impression. The mound is immediately adjacent to the enclosure wall. Between the wall and the mound (i. E. To the north of the mound) there is a narrow lower area slightly higher than the surrounding ground to the south and east but suggesting more that surface erosion of the mound has over time begun to fill the void (batty).
