HER Number:MDV70260
Name:ADIT in the Parish of Gulworthy

Summary

C18 adit & shaft surveyed in 2003. The open adit is located immediately above a leat running along the side of the valley in ‘hangingcliff wood’. The 2m x 1m opening is cut into a rock outcrop & the adit slopes down for c5m with horizontal timbers visible. The workings may have drained into the ‘river tamar’ at sx43677277. A shaft c1.5m x 1.9m has been sunk from the top of the outcrop down to the centre of the lode. A spoil mound 5m diameter x 3.6m high is located to the southwest of the adit. The leat & track have been cut by the workings suggesting the adit is a later feature. A second inaccessible adit 1.5m wide x 1.8m high is located c2.5m above the outcrop (buck).
