Full description

Buck, C., 2003, Bedford United Mines: Archaeological Assessment, 34-35,37, Fig 24 (Report - Assessment). SDV319828.

Site 1. C18 adit and shaft surveyed in 2003. The open adit is located immediately above a leat running along the side of the valley in ‘Hangingcliff Wood’. The 2m x 1m opening is cut into a rock outcrop and the adit slopes down for c.5m with horizontal timbers visible. The workings may have drained into the River Tamar at SX43677277. A shaft c1.5m x 1.9m has been sunk from the top of the outcrop down to the centre of the lode. A spoil mound 5m diameter x 3.6m high is located to the southwest of the adit. The leat and track have been cut by the workings suggesting the adit is a later feature. A second inaccessible adit 1.5m wide x 1.8m high is located c2.5m above the outcrop.

Buck, C., 2012, Bedford Mine Trail, Gulworthy, Devon: Impact Assessment, 16; Site 1 (Report - Assessment). SDV361388.

Open adit near leat, accessed via cutting in rock outcrop. May be visible from proposed Bedford Mine Trail.
