Summary

’blount’s shaft’ was described in 1956 & in 2000 as a 2m x 2m depression but was not found during the 2003 survey. The spoil heap from this shaft is shown on os (1904) map as three long ‘finger dumps’ at sx43827258. A 3m diameter x 0.6m high mound of ashes at sx43857256 suggests the site of a portable steam engine possibly used as a power source for the adjacent 13m x 8m dressing floor platform with a 0.5m retaining wall (buck).
