Name:SPOIL HEAP in the Parish of Gulworthy

Summary

Large mine waste heap c130m x 110m from the working levels of the ‘incline’ & ‘engine’ shafts shown on the 1867 survey plan & on the os (1884) map in two main long heaps aligned east to west. Tramlines are shown on the later map along the top of the southern heap with the route of the flat rod from the water wheel to ‘marquis shaft’ shown dividing the northern from the southern heaps. The survey in 2003 found the ground levels had been altered with tarmac laid on the flattened platforms to make working areas & building foundations for the ‘tavistock woodland sawmill company’ (buck).
