Name:Sprague's Shaft, Ding Dong Mine

Summary

Site of an ‘old shaft’ shown on the 1867 survey plan & on the os (1884) map. The shaft, also known as ‘sprage’s shaft’, is sited on ‘ding dong lode’ between the ‘bedford united’ & ‘south bedford’ mines. The survey in 2003 found a circular depression 5m diameter x 1m deep with a small central collapse 0.3m deep. To the west of the shaft is a spoil heap 1.5m high x 2m long x 1m wide & to the east of the shaft are a series of prospecting pits & trenches (buck).

Site of an ‘old shaft’ shown on the 1867 survey plan & on the os (1884) map. The shaft, also known as ‘sprage’s shaft’, is sited on ‘ding dong lode’ between the ‘bedford united’ & ‘south bedford’ mines. To the west of the shaft is a spoil heap 1.5m high x 2m long x 1m wide & to the east of the shaft are a series of prospecting pits & trenches (buck).
