Full description
Exeter Archaeology, 2003, East Devon Heathlands Archaeological Survey, 41, Part 2: Gazetteer, Site No. 141 (Report - Survey). SDV101648.
On north edge of Bicton Common in triangular area delimited by trackways is a raised platform 0.5 metre higher than the surrounding ground. Raised area circa 25 metres northwest to southeast by a maximum of circa 15 metres northeast to southwest. May represent spoil dump related to road on north side, or from military activity (World War Two and later) of which there is much in the vicinity. Within west end of triangular space is an L-shaped bank: northwest-southeast bank circa 10 metres long by 2 metres high by 5 metres wide, east bank circa 1 metre high by 3 metres wide. Immediately to south, divided by trackway, is a smaller bank, less well defined but also apparently L-shaped. North bank of feature circa 8 metres east-west by 0.5 metre high by 2 metres wide, east bank circa 1 metre long by 0.5 metre high by 1 metre wide. Features almost certainly military.
