Summary

Large area of prospecting pits probably excavated in the c18 exploiting the tin & copper of the ‘luscombe south lode’ extending in a narrow band from sx44047176 to sx44437186. The survey in 2003 found hundreds of elliptical pits or trenches with typical dimensions of 2m square x 2m deep with banks 2m wide x 1m high. The pits extend parallel to the southern field boundary which respects the course of the lode. Two larger pits may indicate shafts at sx44327182 with an opening of 3m x 2.5m x 2m deep & at sx44347183 with a large depression 18m x 12m x 4m deep (buck).
