Summary
’engine shaft’ is shown on the 1867 lode map & the 1884 os map on ‘main lode’. The shaft would have pumped & wound ore from the working levels. The 1867 survey plan shows a cleared area to the south of the shaft which may have been a capstan/horsewhim & a large spoil heap around the downslope sides of the shaft. The survey in 2003 found the flooded shaft had a wide 10m x 9m opening with collapsed north & southwest walls (buck).
