Name:ADIT in the Parish of Gulworthy

Summary

Site of ‘ding dong adit’ portal between ‘bridge lode’ & ‘ding dong lode’. The survey in 2003 found the open portal issuing orange water & the timber adit setts were visible. The adit lobby was c5m wide & the portal c1m wide x 0.7m high. A 10m long x 1.2m high wall retains the higher ground to the north & south of the portal. A corrugated iron hut on a flat area to the south appears to have housed petrol driven winding engine in 1920s. A 0.2m diameter plastic pipe takes water from the adit to a small water wheel to the west. The small timber water wheel 2.3m diameter x 0.5m wide at sx43397216 appears to have recently been used to generate electricity via a turbine (buck).
