Summary

A mine shaft of post-medieval to modern date is depicted on historic maps of 1867 and is visible on aerial photographs of 1947 and 1948, to the south of Luscombe Mine. The earthwork is located in an area where a number of similar such features have been recorded.

Full description

BUCK, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV219466.

Site of an air shaft shown on the 1867 maps as ‘old shaft – fenced’ but not shown on the os (1884) map on the ‘chimney rock lode’. The survey in 2003 found an earth & stone bank 1.2m high x 0.8m wide surrounding the 6m diameter x 7m deep shaft (buck).
