Full description

Archaeological Services WYAS, 2003, East Devon new community, 3.7 (Report - Geophysical Survey). SDV323042.

A geophysical survey undertaken in 2003 found evidence of ridge & furrow ploughing & an infilled field boundary. Other details: Block 7.

Exeter Archaeology, 2004, Archaeological evaluation of the proposed site for East Devon new community - Draft, 4,9,Figs 1,2 & 6 (Report - Evaluation). SDV101308.

A trench was excavated by Exeter Archaeology in 2004 in the northeast corner of the field. Two ill-defined parallel linear features aligned east to west & 3m apart were exposed. The northern ditch was 1.26m wide x 0.7m deep & the southern ditch was 1.5m wide x 0.75m deep. The feature was interpreted as a former post medieval field boundary.

Waterman CPM Ltd, 2006, Cranbrook, Devon: Archaeological Mitigation Strategy, 6 (Report - non-specific). SDV345274.

Some indeterminate features have been recorded in the small area to the south of the road. Although these may reflect agricultural boundaries, given the higher archaeological potential of remains in close proximity to the supposed course of the Roman road, this area should be subject to limited further investigation. Other details: Plan 1, 11.
