Two gravel pits shown on Ordnance Survey 1890 map, in area of rough ground to west of road. The larger, northern pit, at grid reference SY 0505 9121, has presumably been at least partially infilled, and appears more as a terrace than a pit. Extent of former excavated area not discernible, maximum 1.5 metres deep on east side, adjacent to the road. The smaller, southern pit, at grid reference SY 04974 91144, is still visible and measures circa 10 metres north/south by 6 metres east/west; it is full of dumped rubbish. The feature is under some tree cover, and is overgrown on east side.

Stoten, G., 2006, Ottery St Mary to Aylesbeare, Devon: Archaeology and Heritage Survey, Table 9, Map 4, Gazetteer (Report - Survey). SDV347996.
