Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1880s, Ordnance Survey (Cartographic). SDV848.

'Exwick School (Boys & Girls)' is shown on OS 25" (1880s) map as an irregular shaped building on the east side of Exwick Road.

Exwick Schools in Exwick Road were designed by A Weslake & built of local volcanic stone with brick porches in 1861. The slate roof has decorative ventilators & a small bellcote on the northern gable. The building was enlarged in 1875 after it had become a 'Board School'. The building ceased to function as a school in the 1970s & was in community use in 2004. Other details: Fig 9.
