Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1880s, Ordnance Survey (Cartographic). SDV848.

'School' shown on OS 25" (1880s) map as an irregular shaped group of buildings set back from the west side of Alphington Road.

Alphington Board School was designed by J W Rowell & built in 1876 in red brick with stone dressings in a Gothic style under a slate roof. There are tall chimney shafts & a prominent bellcote. A master's house at the south end has patterned brickwork & a central bay. The building became a community centre in 1989. Other details: Fig 20.
