Site of 'School' shown on OS 25" (1905) map as a large square building in a rectilinear yard on the north side of Dunsford Road.

John Stocker School was designed by E McKewan & A J Dunn & built in 1902 as a Council School on the site of the former Bowhill House Asylum at the junction of Buddle Lane & Dunsford Road. The building was a large two-storey block set in a large playground to the northwest of Dunsford Road. The school was demolished following a fire in 1972 but the walls of the playground & the adjoining shelters remain. The present John Stoker School is located to the north & was identified for redevelopment as the new Bowhill Combined School in 2004. The headmaster's house which was detached from the main school remains to the east.
