Bodman, M., 1998, Water-Powered Sites in Devon, 36 (Report - non-specific). SDV305931.

Other details: 134.

Carbonell, B. M. H. + Wauton, M., 2002, Untitled Source, 23-24 (Pamphlet). SDV321149.

Until 1887 the tannery at Halse was a thriving industry which had 15 cottages to house the employees. A lease of 1547 mentions a close of land on the east side of the village of 'Nymetburgh' with a suitable place to dry 'corruim' (hides). The position of this close corresponds to Halse & suggests a tannery was in existence then.

Bodman, M., 2003, Watermills and Other Water-Powered Sites in Devon, 236 (Report - Interim). SDV325576.

Bow Tanyard is mentioned in a newspaper article of 1787.
