Full description

Buck, C., 2002, Devon Great Consols: Archaeological Assessment, 95+ Figs 15, 38 (Report - Assessment). SDV241758.

Large spoil heap at Wheal Anna Maria mine first shown on OS (1884) map with a tunnel from SX42497371 to SX42477370. The tunnel is shown on the Abandoned Mine Plan of 1940 on 'Anna Maria Sand Dump'. The tunnel appears to have carried a leat or was possibly a tramway route. It may have been cut in the 1920s as part of the inclined plane railway from Wheal Anna Maria arsenic works to Wheal Fanny. The survey found the eroded spoil heaps up to 7m high with flattened tops. The remnants of the collapsed tunnel were visible with an opening 0.5m high x 1.75m wide. Other details: Sites 112 & 112/1.
