Full description
Ordnance Survey, 1880s, Ordnance Survey (Cartographic). SDV848.
Site of 'Engine House' shown on OS 25" (1880s) map as a group of buildings at 'Wheal Josiah' mine between Richard's & Hitchins's Shafts.

Site of Hitchins winding engine house & boiler house at Wheal Josiah which probably served Richard's Shaft to the west (see PRN 3867) & Hitchins's Shaft to the east (see PRN 51116). No evidence of the engine house was found during the survey apart from a small 2m section of wall. A small area of collapse at SX43077365 was interpreted as uncompacted spoil material.
