Ordnance Survey, 1880s, Ordnance Survey (Cartographic). SDV848.

Site of a 'Shaft' shown on OS 25" (1880s) map as a rectangular building to the west of Richard's Shaft at Wheal Josiah mine.

Site of an old shaft at Wheal Josiah which was filled in in the 1950s. The Symons 1848 map shows a shaft to the north at cSX42957366 which may be the same shaft. The survey found a large area excavated to 0.75m deep with a mound of rubble which may indicate the site of the shaft. Other details: Sites 149 & 149/1.
