The field name, Kennel Mead may derive from "channel", indicating the former presence of an irrigation system to provide a catchwork meadow. However, the field was said to have been under pasture in the tithe survey (No. 1767 on the Okehampton Tithe Apportionment) and no channels are currently visible.
