Railway lines at Wheal Josiah appear to be the oldest at Devon Great Consols. Documentary evidence of 1850 describes an incline tramway between Wheal Josiah & Wheal Anna Maria dressing floors. The 1857 Lease map labels a section of railway from SX42637366 to SX43507355. The incline railway ran from SX42707358 to SX43157364. A line to Wheal Josiah saw mill ran from SX42937381 to SX43007349 & the Field Shaft winder line ran from SX42797363 to SX42837354. The survey in 2002 found an embankment 150m long x 2.5-3m high with remnants of timber revetment marking the incline railway line. The main line between Wheal Anna Maria & Agnes Shaft was traced crossing the the later flat rod cutting & parts of the saw mill & Field Shaft lines were still visible. Other details: Sites 150,150/1,150/2,150/3.
