Full description

Buck, C., 2002, Devon Great Consols: Archaeological Assessment, 168, Figs 21,38 (Report - Assessment). SDV241758.

Building shown on the 1867 & labelled 'Tank' by the OS. According to the owner of Hawkmoor House to the south the feature was constructed to provide storage for pheasant, grouse & fowl. The survey in 2002 found the structure mostly built underground with the east & west walls open above ground level. Iron hooks & straps were set in the roof & walls. The structure was 5m long x 1.7m wide x 2.32m high with a low stone-lined platform 3.25m long x 2m wide on the northern side. Other details: Site 244.
