The County stones were set up to mark the limits of the county bridge builders circa 100 yards to either side of the bridge. The bridges were either built or altered from the 15th century onwards to accommodate the growing number of horse drawn carriages.

Site visit 17th August 2004. County Stone circa 70 metres south of bridge over River Erme in wall above old sluice gates on east side of road. The stone, which dates from circa 1841, has a distinctive 'C'. It was damaged by a vehicle in early 2007 and has a chunk out of the right hand side.
