Full description
Buck, C., 2002, Devon Great Consols: Archaeological Assessment, 220-1 (Report - Assessment). SDV241758.
The 1925 mine at Wheal Frementor consisted of a winding/loading area & the start of the narrow-guage railway to the new Anna Maria arsenic works (see PRN 3865). The survey in 2002 found a working area 6m wide near the gunnis (see PRN 71596) with remnants of iron straps, timber connectors & a riveted iron plate ore hopper 1m long x 0.7m wide x0.9m high. A retaining wall on the northern side was up to 2m high & there was evidence of corrugated roofing & a low machinery plinth with bolts. At SX42367249 an excavation had been made into the hillslope 8m long x 5m wide with a rear wall up to 3m high which may be the site of the Garrett steam engine. Other details: Site 354.
