Full description
Buck, C., 2002, Devon Great Consols: Archaeological Assessment, 224-5, Figs 33 & 38 (Report - Assessment). SDV241758.
Site of the 'Higher' Copper Precipitation Works at Devon Great Consols which appears to have operated from the late 1930s until 1940 when a drought interrupted the water supply. A plan of 1940 showed the complex included a number of buildings, water tanks, an electricity sub station, offices & many lines of copper precipitation tanks. A large slime pond is shown to the southeast with an overflow pipe taking water via a long precipitaion tank to the west. The survey in 2002 found no surface evidence of the works. In the late 1960s a reprocessing mill was erected on the site at SX42687318. The cylindrical ball mill 4m long x 1.8m diameter remains on a concrete plinth with an electric motor & generator to the east. At SX42707317 a pipe 0.15m diameter extends for 7m towards the large southern spoil heap. Other details: Sites 360 & 361.
