Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1880s, Ordnance Survey (Cartographic). SDV848.

Site of a small square feature shown on OS 25" (1880s) map with a spoil heap to the west.

Site of Whim or Air Shaft, capstan & finger dump at Wheal Thomas/Watson mine shown on the 1857 lease map & labelled 'Air Shaft' on the 1867 lodes map. The survey in 2002 found a granite stone marking the shaft in a deprssion 6m diameter x 0.8m deep. A flat area 9m x 9m to the south may have been a working area or the location of the whim. A collapsed adit portal or a small quarry was located to the west at SX43707303. Other details: Sites 375 & 374.
