Visited on 8th August 2005. Milestone on the path beside a wall on the west side of the A377, in South Street Newport. In fair condition, retains white painted legend, "1 Barum". One of the best examples of the characteristic Barnstaple tombstone set up in 1879 by Barnstaple Turnpike Trust immediately prior to its closure. Each of the stones bears the simple Barum legend with a number to signify the distance from the town.

South Street Newport, milestone approximately 4 metres north of Park Lane. Probably 1879. Dressed block of granite with rounded top, incised with inscription 1 BARUM.
