Full description

Exeter Archaeology, 1997, Haldon Ridge Survey (Report - Survey). SDV337108.

Site visit: 4th February 1997. Field called Searchlight, the reputed location of a Second World War searchlight. Breeze blocks partially visible within the hedge on the west side of the road c.155m south of Dunchideock Bridge are said to be the steps up into the field to the light. The exact location of the light is unknown.

Dobinson, C. S., 2000, Searchlight sites in WWII, 37 (Report - non-specific). SDV323811.

Site of WWII searchlight at Dunchideock. Manned by 384 SL Bty.

Ponsford, T., 2023, Searchlight at Dunchideock (Correspondence). SDV365482.

There was a searchlight in Dunchideock during the Second World War. The family remember the lads from Newcastle that were stationed there to man it. There is no sign of anything within the field at the above NGR but it was probably a wheeled vehicle.
