Full description
REICHEL, 1913, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV142148.
A church probably existed at west alvington before ad 909 (reichel,1913).
DOE 1960, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV142151.
Mainly late medieval but east end of chancel is partly c13. Good tower of west devon with large octagonal pinnacles. Main roof of wagon type much restored. Arcades of beerstone. Porch two-storeyed. Fine restored rood screen with remains of original colour. Nice modern pulpit of local type. Good mural monument to william bastard, 1703. Early c16 canopied tomb in purbeck marble on north of chancel (doe 1960).

The early foundation is explained by the fact that the bishopric of devon was created in 909 and it is said that had the church been founded after this date it would have been in the patronage of the bishop or chapter of devon in 1086, not old sarum (reichel,1939). Fireplace in south porch, on east side (phillips).
