Summary

Site of a Second World War roadblock at the east end of of Axmouth Bridge visible on aerial photographs taken between 1941 and 1946. It is not visible on later available aerial photographs and the anti-tank obstacles were probably relocated soon after the end of the war.

A possible Second World War roadblock is visible on aerial photographs taken between 1941 and 1946. It appears to consist of a number of small structures, circa 1 metre across, across the trackway that adjoins the eastern end of Axe Bridge. There appears to be a gap through the southern part of the roadblock in August 1941, suggesting that the roadblock consisted of concrete anti-tank obstacles, some of which had been moved to allow access. In 1946 all the obstacles seem to be sited on the west of the track. They are not visible on later available aerial photographs and were probably relocated soon after the end of the war.
