Full description
Buck, C., 2005, Wheal Russell Mine, Devon: Archaeological Assessment, 21-2 (Report - Assessment). SDV336659.
Costean pits (Site 7) to the west of Maria Shaft (see PRN 22885) were shown on a 19th century mine plan at Wheal Russell Mine. The pits may relate to the 18th century workings at Wheal Impham Wood Mine which became part of the Russell United Mine in the mid 19th century. The survey in 2005 found an unfenced pit 2.5 meters long x 1.5 meters wide cut into the hill side with the east side up to 2.5 meters high. Other details: Figs 6 & 8.
